Introducing a New Pet to Your Home

Set up a safe space

Before arrival, prepare a quiet room with food, water, bedding and a litter tray or pee pad. Let the new pet settle there first.

The scent swap

Exchange bedding between the new and resident pet for a day or two so they become familiar with each other's smell before meeting face to face.

First meetings

• Keep them short and supervised.
• Use a baby gate or leash as a buffer.
• Reward calm behaviour from both pets.
